In celebration of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Week this September, the Sangguniang Bayan of
Banton, Romblon proudly spearheaded a local Basketball Tournament, bringing together athletes and enthusiasts from across the municipality. This spirited event served not only as a highlight of the week’s festivities but also as a testament to the power of sports in uniting communities.
The activity focused on establishing green buffer zones around the landfill, an essential step toward maintaining ecological balance, mitigating environmental risks, and enhancing the site’s long-term resilience. Each tree planted symbolized a commitment to cleaner, healthier surroundings and a shared responsibility to safeguard natural resources for future generations. Beyond its ecological impact, the event served as a platform for civic engagement, where local leaders and citizens worked hand in hand to promote environmental stewardship. It reinforced the Chapter’s advocacy for sustainable development and echoed the national call for a Bagong Pilipinas one rooted in integrity, progress, and care for the planet.
Through this meaningful endeavor, PC President Quirino reaffirmed its role as a proactive partner in community-building and climate action, proving that even small steps can lead to lasting change when guided by purpose and unity.
